Artwork text

In the multipart installation Raum der Büglerin (Room of the Female Ironer), Bauer places reworked everyday objects in suggestive relation to one another. Bauer condenses real objects, language, form, and space, indicating their potential significance for the construction of a woman’s everyday reality. Deep plaster casts on the Christian cross show where a hand has grasped it. The surface of the ironing board is painted red in places, evoking associations with the menstrual cycle, in which women are trapped, just as with their traditional duties in the home. He stages a woman’s everyday life, illustrating a political aspect. (Doris Leutgeb)
