Ulrich Formann
Ulrich Formann is a multidisciplinary conceptual and media artist. He completed his studies in digital and transmedia art at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (with Ruth Schnell), as well as temporary studies at the ZKM, Karlsruhe, DE, with Peter Weibel.
The live media installation, which is part which is part of the Generali Foundation Collection—Permanent Loan to the Museum der Moderne Salzburg has so far been shown internationally in the following group exhibitions: 2022: “Re. Paring. Future", Die Angewandte (Lichthof A, Ferstel-Trakt), Vienna, AT, and as part of the “Criatech Festival” in Aveiro, PT; 2023: “re:publica Festival”, Hamburg, DE and “Ecstated Media”, Museum der Moderne Salzburg, AT; 2024 “NEW ECOLOGIES - Gegenwarten II”, Chemnitz, DE; 2023 he received a solo exhibition at Schauraum Angewandte in Museumsquartier, Vienna, AT.
In his digital media installations, Ulrich Formann deals with questions of economics, democracy and the climate crisis and explores the limits and downsides of modern technologies. For this he uses the possibilities of computer programming, reverse engineering and hardware hacking.
