Paul McCarthy
Paul McCarthy was born in 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. He studied, among other things, at the University of Utah (The U) from 1969 and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in painting at the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI). Beginning in 1972, he studied film, video and art at the University of California (UCLA), Los Angeles, from which he graduated with a Master of Fine Arts (MFA). From 1982 to 2002 he taught at the University of California (UCLA), Los Angeles. He has participated in numerous international group exhibitions and has received solo exhibitions, including 2009 at the Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw, Poland; 2008 at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, USA; 2007 at the S.M.A.K. Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst, Ghent, Belgium; 2006 the Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Sweden; 2005 the Haus der Kunst, Munich, Germany and the Whitechapel Gallery, London, United Kingdom; 2004 the Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, Netherlands; 2003 the Tate Modern, London, United Kingdom. Paul MacCarthy lives and works in Altadena, California.
