Joachim Koester

Joachim Koester was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1962. From 1987 he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and the School of Visual Arts, where he graduated in 1993. He works in an interdisciplinary interweaving of photography, film and video. Among his many solo exhibitions are 2018 Bergen Kunsthall, Bergen, Norway and 1999 MoMA P.S.1, New York, USA and Kunstwerke, Berlin, Germany. In 1997 he participated in documenta X in Kassel, Germany and in 2005 represented Denmark in the Danish Pavilion at the 51st Biennale di Venezia in Venice, Italy. In 2008 he was represented at the 7th Manifesta Trentino - Alto Adige - Province of Trento-South Tyrol, Italy, and in 2010 at the 29th São Paulo Biennial, São Paulo, Brazil. In 2013 he received in Austria the Camera Austria Prize for contemporary photography. Joachim Koester lives and works in Copenhagen and New York.
