Iveković, Sanja/Dalibor Martinis
Sanja Ivekovic was born in 1949 in Zagreb (then then the Federative People's Republic of Yugoslavia Yugoslavia), Croatia, where she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts from 1968 to 1971. One of the first explicitly feminist artists in Croatia, she is the initiator and founder of numerous political initiatives, including the Elektra Women's Art Centre and the Center for Women's Studies in Zagreb, where she has taught since 1994. Her work has won several awards at film and video festivals, including Locarno and Montreal. In 2009 she received the Camera Austria Award of the City of Graz for contemporary photography. She participated four times in Documenta 8,11,12 and 13 in Kassel in 1987, 2002, 2007 and 2017. In 2011, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, USA dedicated a retrospective to her. Sanja Ivekovic lives and works in Zagreb.
Dalibor Martinis was born in 1947 in Zagreb, Croatia (then the Federative People's Republic of Yugoslavia). He studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, from which he graduated in 1971. He then worked in multimedia in the fields of conceptual art, video and performance. In 1978, together with his then wife Sanja Iveković, with whom he collaborated artistically until 1992, he founded the exhibition space "Podroom", which was run by and for artists:inside (until 1980). From 1987 to 1991 he taught at the Zagreb Theatre Academy. Martinis was a visiting professor at the University of Zagreb, a visiting lecturer at the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) in Canada from 1991, and a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rijeka, Croatia from 2008 until his retirement. Dalibor Martinis has participated in numerous international group and major events, including the 1998 Biennale of São Paulo, Brazil, the 1997 47th Biennale di Venezia , Italy and1987 documenta 8, Kassel, Germany. His videos have been shown at international film festivals in Berlin, Tokyo, Montreal, San Francisco and Locarno, among others. Dalibor Martinis lives and works in Zagreb.
