Gerald Obersteiner

Gerald Obersteiner was born in 1956 in Waiern, Carinthia, Austria. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. Gerald Obersteiner lived and worked in Vienna and Klagenfurt, Austria. He passed away in 2024.

In his early days Obersteiner experimented with additive working methods with clay, plaster and papier-mâché, which he shaped into sculptures and in some cases painted. In the early 1980s, he switched to a deductive sculptural approach, working with stones. Later, the material glass followed. Themes are evolution and the organic of nature.
