Who wouldn't like to be someone else at times, to take one's self off like a jacket and to put on another? In the publication of the exhibition double life international artists from very different generations presented works in which the wish to assume another role was taken up. The differing strategies of imagining another subject could be termed eccentric, ironic or even utopian and critical. These extend from the widening of one's own experiential horizon to the construction of a fictional character. Beyond freely chosen identities personal history is still always perceptible. Thus the works tell stories of wishes and desires but can not make you forget the artists' selves.
