This presentation of selected artists' books and photographs explored the dialogue between the documentary and fictional in contemporary conceptions of the image.

The focus was set on works of art that reveal different forms of affinity to photography: they directly or indirectly employ the medium or make reference to its capacity to record what is there. The selection encompassed examples of visual journalism and works that scrutinize the—actual or staged—relations between visual representation and reality. This second presentation on view at the Generali Foundation Study Center once again illustrated the rich diversity of its holdings and its potential as a place for research of modern and contemporary art.
