On occasion of the Generali Foundation's thirtieth anniversary, an exhibition invited to explore the history of this world-renowned institution.

The Generali Foundation is an affiliate of the Generali Group Austria established in 1988 to promote contemporary visual art. Its core mission is to build a collection, conduct scholarly research and documentation, and introduce broad audiences to its holdings. The work done by the Generali Foundation has been courageous and groundbreaking in many respects, helping gain recognition for ambitious and critical art to win the public attention it deserved.

Operating in a preliminary home in Vienna and then in an exhibition, storage, and office building in the city's fourth district designed by Jabornegg & Pálffy architects that was inaugurated in 1995, the Generali Foundation organized seminal exhibitions—until 2014, they numbered well over a hundred. It also produced numerous publications; in the exhibition they had been presented on two specific tables, an installation the artist Heimo Zobernig created for this purpose in 2007. In addition, the foundation built an archive and library; like the extensive video collection, these holdings are accessible to the public free of charge at the Generali Foundation Study Center, which has been housed in the Rupertinum since 2016.

In 2014, the Generali Foundation and the Museum der Moderne Salzburg concluded a comprehensive partnership agreement: the collection moved to Salzburg, where it is now on permanent loan to the museum, and both institutions collaborate on joint activities.
