Artwork text

The only museum tour performance that Fraser developed specifically for videotape, The Public Life of Art, was shot in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Working with Louise Lawler to identify locations and responding to Lawler’s visual frames, Fraser began to formulate the social history of the museum later developed in Museum Highlights, and to articulate it within a context which also included such contemporary conditions as the growth of corporate art sponsorship and the supply-side economics of the Reagan era.
