Farocki’s material fascinates because of the place where the filming is done and because of the kind of vision: prisons, refugee houses, en-forcement facilities. Again and again, scenes from feature films, documentary films, and propaganda strips show the prisoner as singled out, potentially violent, perhaps mentally disturbed. The majority of the film excerpts tell how people are turned into prisoners. (Eckart Lottmann)
