Artwork text

In a few years it will be possible to convert every take into anything imaginable with the aid of a machine. What I want is to keep training until the craft of filmmaking has been worn away. What remains for me is to look through images that are already there, that make themselves, until a forgotten remnant remains. WHO ...? asks Bresson and produces the answer that it may well be the Devil. I ask WHAT drives us, because these days the Devil would wear sports clothes and would have a blister on his left foot. Here in West Germany lots of things are happening, to put it in in Marxist terms: sterile added-value production. Urges without goals, unregulated circulation, no motif of redemption. (Harun Farocki)
