Invited to participate in the 24th Biennial of São Paulo, Andrea Fraser proposed to produce reports on the exhibition for Brazilian television. Working with a news crew from TV Cultura, she conducted interviews and delivered commentary on location, editing the material into a series of five short broadcasts. Due to national presidential elections, local floods, a global economic crisis, and other events coinciding with the opening of the Biennial, the tapes were never broadcast. These events, however, provide a dramatic context in which to examine the 24th Biennial’s theme of “cannibalism” as well as the relationship between international biennial exhibitions and economic globalization.
