Rosler filmed broad fields of flowers from a moving car on Interstate 5 Highway near San Diego, in the area where she was living at the time. Flowers are one of the area’s few nonmilitary industries. At first the colorful fields of flowers can be admired from a distance. A zoom reveals what is producing this abstract colored painting: Mexican workers bending over and kneeling down. Glimpses of passing cars and lorries, a romantic view of the scene at night, and pictures of palm trees with the Pacific Ocean behind them end this road movie. (Sabine Breitwieser)
