All those who are simply curious and those wanting to increase their knowledge of contemporary art, will find extensive research material in the Reference Room, including some material that is otherwise not readily available. Main emphasis is placed on the themes of the exhibitions and projects and on artists and works featured in the Generali Foundation’s collection. In preparation for exhibitions or acquisitions, research on the respective artists and topics is carried out and material is collected, often great amounts, in a process of exchange with international archives.

The core of the Library comprises approximately 10,500 monographs, catalogues, and theoretical works, including all current art publications and, additionally, several rare historical art journals. The comprehensive Media Library offers for on-site study, all of the collections films (as video copies) and videos as well as an extensive archive of sound-works from the seventies.

The Reference Room offers a reference-only facility, thus all available materials must be studied on the premises and cannot be taken out on loan.

Access and use of the Reference Room is free of charge. Visitors are asked to mention the Generali Foundation as a source when presenting their research. Additionally, we ask for an author’s copy of all forms of printed works.
